Default Reducing the size of images

Hi,

I have paint.net, it's cheap and I don't do this for a living. There is one image on Mum & Dad's site that's quite large (1mb). I'd like to reduce the size (to around 50 - 120k) of it without affecting the physical size of it or quality that much. I've already converted it to a GIF, but, I don't know what else I can do.....

Any suggestions ???

Well, you can minimize its size if you minimize the pixels.

Sorry. I don't understand what you are trying to say. As I've said before, I don't do websites for a living, so I don't know the industry jargon. At the moment, I'm working professionally with webMethods (Integration software). Can you please use common language to express your thoughts.

Cheers,
David

What dimensions (height & width) is the 1mb file?? Sounds like it would be fairly large.

You can "clean" the file which removes any unnecessary data in the file however it it unlikely to reduce the file by that much.

You wouldn't happen to be referring to FlatsOutFront.gif on your home page? I can see that the image is 1231x1436 (and about 1mb) but on your site you are viewing it as 325x400. You should resize the image to 325x400 if you don't intend displaying it at a larger size anywhere else - it will look the same. Doing so should give you a file around 90kb.
