I wouldn't want my website operating on a server with 1000+ websites on it - I won't get to 'technical' with it, but the amount of companies in America that oversell their services is absolutely ridiculous! Hence, the cheap pricing.

Majority of Australian providers DO NOT over do it - yes, sometimes their might be some cases of it but it's very minimal compared to America.

Also, if you're operating a business really you should be thinking about customer service, what SLA (service level agreement) is in place etc. Lot's of US hosting companies don't care if your website go down - and sometimes due to timezone differences, it's hard to even get a hold of a support tech! (Not to mentions 75% of US hosting companies outsource their support anyhow)

Anyway, again just my 2cents!

If you have shared web hosting there will be other websites in your server whether if you hosting here or in the U.S. The amount of websites in one server, that's up for debate. I just can't justify having to pay extra money to have a mySQL, PHP, etc in my web hosting package when these things are so basic and essential for running a website.

I wouldn't say that American hosting companies don't care if your website goes down. No one no matter where you are, no one can guarantee you 100% uptime. There are so many web hosting options in the U.S. that is in the company best interest to give proper support and solve issues asap. I have never had any major issues with my websites being down. The only drawback is the time difference but that's just minor since most of them offer 24/7 support.

That's just my opinion from hosting abroad for the past 3yrs. I do plan to eventually host here in Australia, I'm just not sure if I will have access to the options that I currently have.

Cheers,

B

To be honest, a lot of the features you have mentioned that apparently cost extra - most hosts here in AU offer plenty of resources for free.

I can think of at least 3 off the top of my head that offer unlimited MySQL DB's, unlimited sub-domains, unlimited email addresses etc. for quite cheap, and they're quite reputable.

Anyway, as I said in my other posts - this is all my own personal opinion and a lot of it can be debated and everyone else has their own opinions.

Cheers,
Guy

They do cost extra. I made some enquiries about 3 weeks ago when I was thinking about hosting one of my sites locally and that was the go with some web hosting companies.

Will be good to hear from other members opinions in the forum, see what their take is.

Well, look at this plan sourced from a very reputable provider:

-Diskspace: 1GB
-Bandiwdth: 10GB
-Unlimted E-Mail Accounts
-Unlimited MySQL Databases
-24/7 Email Support

For $15 - you can't really go past that!

And their next plans up are rather nice too!
