Default Online retailing is a dead-end

What do you think of Gerry Harvey's recent comments that online retailing is a dead-end?

Billionaire or not, those are the words of someone completely out of touch! He is probably old enough to live out his life with his business in good health using his dated approach however the next in line to his empire will need to embrace the internet or they will preside over the company's demise.

I couldn't believe he would think that either!

I don't know if many people would buy many lounges or fridges over the internet however I'm sure most people would be researching online. In Harvey Normans case online retail would probably never exceed his store revenue however it's an important part of retailing regardless.

If you want to earn millions/year, then online retailing might be dead-end. But for a decent income is still enough room.

The site I originally linked to have now fired one back at Gerry Harvey with a list of the Top 10 online retailers in Australia.

I think people are considering the aspects of online fraud never before. Further, as the fear of recession is looming large, people are not taking any chance to lose anything. That is why they are researching online but they are not purchasing online.

You know whats funny, about 5 years ago I had a high school project we had to find a business which currently had no e-commerce presence and make a "mock" site for it, ie something thats just a guide but not a final working product.

I chose Harvey Norman becuase at the time they had no online presence when their competitors were making huge sales online, which for such a large company I thought was weird becuase selling products online was very very cheap.

I mean these way 5 years ago and all Harvey Norman had was a "online guide to what they sold in store", they even had a ring tones site.

This site I made 5 years ago sucks in design but it give you a idea of what Harvey Norman SHOULD have been doing... But they obviously still are not doing.

But yeah I have a few sites running off Amazon Affiliate and other online Affiliates, to say online retailing is dead is a stupid claim to make, its bigger then ever, especially via trusted sites.
