Default Learning to design..

Hi,

I am learning HTML basics and want to learn php and My sql in the future.

Just wondering what exactly is the right way to learn web-designing? Is it necessary to learn XHTML, XML or ASP to be a good web designer?

I am using w3school tutorials right now.

Regards,

ESSEN

XML and ASP aren't really related to web design as such. XML is a way of storing data, ASP is a programming language for generating dynamic web pages, like PHP. You don't HAVE to learn XML and ASP.

There are so many facits to web design - usability, standards, accessibility and so on - and I don't it's possible to just learn it.

I think a great way to learn is to just practice, if you can afford the time. You might even like to try downloading free website templates to see how other people use XHTML, CSS, etc to build a page.

You could also look at doing design contests or offering to redesign people's sites for free in return for a link to your own portfolio site.

w3school tutorials are a great place to start, but make sure you don't just read - make sure you also put it in to action.

Default Practice... Practice.... you guessed it!

It all comes down to practice...

As Jono said, XML n ASP are not required same as PHP n Javascript are not...

Personally i think you will find it easy and quick learning PHP & MySQL.

One thing i use todo awhile back was create something simple... Say a 2by2 table..
Then just spend time making it look better with CSS and cutting out as much HTML as i can and replacing it with CSS. So just using the style="" attribute on the table tag.

<table style="border:2px solid #000000; color:#000000; font-weight:700;">
that sorta thing.

After that, i would look at swapping the table with a div layout method... But dont worry about that one for awhile.

The best thing to teach you learning is to have a challenge... Something that is not your own... If its yours... You will get lazy or take your time... If its someone elses.. You will want to please them and make it better and better.
